Traveling: Chic Mama Style

Many of you may not know that one of the main reasons I started this blog is because I wanted to promote a message loud and clear: that there are ways to travel WITH your children. I was inspired to start this blog when I was amazed at how many times I kept hearing people utter the phrase, “I always wanted to go there, but now it’s just too hard with the kids.” Or, “We want to have kids, but we want to travel a bit first.” Should it come to a screeching hault the moment they enter this world?
Now, it is true that traveling with kiddos presents different challenges. And it is also true that because I am the Mama of one, I don’t have as much experience (except road trips- she’s been on about eight so far). Perhaps it is the traveler inside of me that is saying, “No, I will not give up my traveling dreams!” I will certainly not be the one who thinks that just because Stella is in our lives the only place we will be vacationing is on a Nickelodeon cruise.
I come from a long line of travelers. I grew up in a family that owns a successful landscaping company and had no problems working hard all summer, and spending most of winter scuba diving in South America. A family that will take their kiddo out of school for two weeks to go on that trip to Australia they’ve always wanted to do. And a family that views traveling not only as an escape, but as a place where teaching culture to their children and selves, will only promote tolerance and amazement of other people. Thank you family!
I am fortunate to have been to many places so far in my life (I’m no where near being done!), and I will never forget a couple I meant while vacationing in Rome. They were from Australia, and were traveling all around Europe by train for two months- with their two and four year old little girls! Did it look the easiest? Nah, not really to be honest. Did it look like they were having fun? Absolutely. Will their kids remember that when they’re older? Probably not, but guess what? It’s OK to do things that aren’t always just for your children!
I am lucky to be surrounded by people that are also travelers. That being said, I have started researching and asking about the places they live and travel, and the things that people can do with their kiddos while they’re there. Places that are not typical of people to travel with their kiddos, but places that you have probably always wanted to go, but never thought you could!
Stay tuned while I bring my findings to you, and show you how you can totally and 100% be a chic traveling Mama (no Disney involved)!
